Melanine Fontine
Combat Application
Name: Melanine Fontine
Race: Human
Affiliation: Fontine Family, Atlas, Atlas Academy, Mellow Heart Foundation
Base Stats
Aura: D
With so much focus on her combat abilities, a genetically gifted Aura pool, and a Semblance that allows for natural Aura regeneration, Mel has not needed to focus as much effort into maintaining her Aura reserves as some of her colleagues.
Stamina: B
Going and going for long periods is how one hardens the body. Mel took this to heart early on, and as such, her body's ability to stay in a fight has been tempered over many, many hours.
Power: C
Melanine's power comes from her versatility and the way she applies her Semblance more than any actual power possessed by the abilities themselves. Countless forms and limitless applications give her all the punch she needs.
Agility: A
As a small little thing, Mel was always impressively light on her feet even before her combat training. With it, her grace, fluidity, coordination, and mobility are astonishing even to the trained eye.
Technical Skills
Prodigal Combatant
The result of Melanine's savantism was her bodily coordination. Application of that technique to the combat sphere turned her into a properly horrifying fighter at any range she inclined herself to fight at. With a brain that is so perfectly fixated on techniques, a body that flourished under tough conditions, and a genetic chain rife with talent, she found herself capable of taking down even the most venerated, elite Huntsman in straight-up combat, armed or unarmed, with her own weapon or with an improvised one, and frequently at the most absurd of disadvantages.
Stupidly Smart
Melanine's socialization leaves something to be desired, the denotation of "little android girl" a moniker that follows her around to this day—not that she minds it. It would be a far more human response than she is prone to, to be bothered by such name-calling, but she finds that it suits her: It truly brings out the imagery of the way she analyzes, processes, and learns things at supercomputer speeds, without any of the drawbacks brought on by frustration, emotion, or socialization.
Military Trained
Life as a world-traveling combat trainee has its perks, and among them came the training and knowledge required to operate as a soldier within many different world militaries. Whether it be a vehicle from a strange part of Menagerie or a firearm from the tech labs in Atlas, it is not often that a weapon, vehicle, or tool is presented to her that she has not, in some fashion, seen, used, or been trained on in various degrees.
Fourth
Equipment
Melanine, for a long time, did not have a weapon to call her own. Her training was centered around the use of military weaponry and hand-to-hand combat, so building her own, personal piece of equipment did not occur to her until she reached the part of her family's training that put her into an actual, factual academy. She wanted weapon that was simple enough to function as a normal weapon would, but still contained the punch and versatility of a Huntresses weapon, without too many strange moving parts or complications that could fail in the field. The initial design of Cannonade was pitched to her by her older brother, Altimeda, and she refined it from there into something that, admittedly, she was passionately fond of.
Cannonade has two pieces; the first is a glaive, that, for all intents and purposes, looks fairly normal. A wide cutting blade with a wicked drag hook on the back blade connects to a slender haft, tracing down to a spiked pommel. Gunmetal-colored steel with a matte finish, it does not look in any way special save for its feel of durability and power that does not come with your everyday gear.
The second part of the weapon is a handgun with a strangely extended frame, considering it also has a normal magazine slot in the grip for its standard magazines. That extension is present such that it can fit a twenty-millimeter anti-tank magazine and fire those rounds after the weapon's transformation. The pommel of the glaive flips down, and the blade follows suit, revealing that the haft has a rifled interior and a receiver for the handgun. When combined, the pair create a long range twenty-millimeter tank buster capable of accepting kinetic and Dust rounds alike.
Semblance
The Hanging Garden
Melanine's Hanging Garden is, perhaps, a reflection of the dissonance within her mind, a product of her exceptional talent and her improperly-wired brain clashing where their conceptual boundaries meet. It has two functions, depending on whether it is fully or partially activated.
When fully manifested, Melanine is swept up and away into a cloud of crystal dust. The cloud appears as a pale, translucent mist from anywhere not inside its boundary, nearly invisible from up close and all but undetectable from a distance.
Taking others with her is a rare occurrence, as Melanine typically uses the space as her sanctum, her comfort zone; while she can take as many with her as can fit, the platform is only so big. Ten people can fit comfortably within the platform, with just enough room for one more team if the occupants mind their footing.
Within, the cloud appears to be a garden made of mist, light easily refracting through the suspended vapors and splashing a glaze of rainbow colors throughout it. While inside, Melanine moving causes the cloud to move; though it appears from without to drift, from within it feels like you're walking through a perpetual landscape. The floor behind her dissipates and new floor appears in front, growing crystalline, misty plants in a dazzling display of colors right before her eyes. Iridescent droplets drift into place to form bushes, flowers, hedges, and all manner of pellucid greenery as the space is traversed. It is a peaceful place, and the place she goes when the pressure of her life grows too great.
The scenery of the garden has a memory; the landscape is not randomly generated each time she goes there, and unless she wills something to revert to its natural state, any alterations made to the landscape will persist indefinitely. As such, one particular tree in a leafy clearing has a large letter F carved into it. Above the F is a letter A; to is bottom left, another A; and to the bottom right, an M. Melanine brought her brother and sister there soon after discovering her Semblance, and invited them to leave a piece of themselves inside so that she could have something of them with her while she was within.
While in the cloud, anyone with Aura has their bodily healing and Aura regeneration increased, a result of the continually generating and decaying crystals of Aura that create the space relinquishing their energetic contents onto the occupants. The rate of regeneration is only slightly higher than that of the expenditure, such that Melanine's own Aura regeneration is only increased by roughly double (2x) the natural regeneration rate, while others have theirs increased by a factor of five (5x). Bodily healing happens within as well, at an equally impressive rate: Minor wounds such as light scrapes, shallow cuts, sprains, and hairline fractures are healed within ten (10) seconds. Moderate wounds, the likes of deep cuts, broken bones, and concussions, take up to a full minute (60 seconds). Major wounds such as organ damage, or loss of digits or small bodily sections, take up to ten (10) minutes. Fully removed limbs, should the victim be stabilized, can heal in the space of thirty (30) minutes, but the process is incredibly unpleasant and is frequently not worth the trouble of fitting the limb with an artificial replacement and calling it a day.
Activating the Garden with less than a full opening causes the crystals to flow out about Melanine's person without the energy to fully sweep her up inside. In this state, she retains control over those crystals, and, with expenditure of Aura, can make them semi-permanent, solid objects, complete with moving parts and structural integrity. This was the initial reason for her lack of a personal weapon—she would simply manifest a free-forming, crystal weapon from her Semblance and fight with it, shifting it and changing its form as necessary. A bite of wisdom imparted to her by her father—"It is best not to use your Aura for anything that you do not truly need it for"—saw her eventually craft Cannonade to take the strain off of her strict need for crystal formation, but even now she will still draw on that source to outfit herself and her teammates armaments and armor that better fit a given situation.
