Standing at about six feet tall and weighing in at about one hundred and eighty pounds, Sol would cut an imposing figure of lean powerful muscle and angular bone structure were it not for the conspicuous absence of his right arm and eye. He often goes garbed in an eye patch in addition to a sophisticated prosthetic that while organic in shape could never be mistaken for the real thing. Sol favors a long fringe and sleeves to obscure these disfigurements but would not be likely admit to it. His remaining eye is a nearly metallic gold in hue, sometimes trending towards an acidic sulfurous yellow, while his straight, oft tied back, hair is nearly black. He goes clean shaven, but might be seen sporting a dense growth of stubble late into the day, that stands out starkly against his pale complexion.
Sol's wardrobe consists of equal parts finery and protection, with a definite paramilitary aesthetic. Jack boots, swallow tailed riding cloaks, parade pants, and lacquered articulated breastplates form the foundation of his style, all of which adorned richly in reds and blues and often sporting the eponymous fragmented aspect of Remnant's moon as his family crest.
Sol's equipment, including his armor, weapons, and uniform are kept in immaculate condition and are prone to receive maintenance priority over his own physical wellbeing. Only in the most extreme of circumstances will Sol be seen with his uniform or gear out of order.
Sol is guarded and cynical with a poor temper. He is very quick to judge others and just as quick to hold a grudge. He has very little sympathy for others and expects little in return, and is just as likely to mock misfortune as he is to empathize. His low opinion of Faunus is a thing of infamy, and while somewhat exaggerated by his critics it is indeed a notable flaw in his outlook.
A brutal and unforgiving life has impressed upon him a brutal and unforgiving mindset. He is prone to lashing out without warning and becoming wroth with the most mundane or trivial of slights. Well aware of his dark reputation it is often unclear even to him where the reputation ends and the man begins.
Despite many faults, Sol is regarded highly by his peers for having an unflinching sense of duty, dogmatic loyalty to his family and nation, a deep well of courage, and curious kindness in the most unexpected circumstances.
Sol holds combat prowess in high regard, and spends a great deal of time training himself physically, continuously searching to become stronger and deadlier. What he is willing to do to attain this ideal is unclear, but it is said by some that he adapted with surprising alacrity to the addition of his artificial arm.
Sol was born into a powerful Atlesian family, House Moon, known throughout Remnant for their ties to the Atlesian military as a band of mercenaries. The Moon's have taken contracts from Atlas for years, often accepting work that would be scandalous or unpopular for the Atlesian Military to address directly, most recently having participated in the subduing of subversive Faunus elements operating in secret seeking to bring about another revolution. Over many generations the Moon forces have grown from a mere handful into a well equipped, highly trained, if somewhat numerically small, private army.
Sol was the only son of Terrell Moon, and an anonymous woman about whom little is known even to Sol. Terrel himself was a soldier who gained fame during the Faunus War for his company's service to Atlas, and infamy for numerous alleged war crimes and brutality. Owing to the victims of these alleged brutalities being largely Faunus, only a cursory investigation into their validity was ever conducted. Many viewed this as the Moons being rewarded for their harsh treatment of the Faunus, a sentiment only increased when the Moon forces began accepting contracts to eliminate those remaining subversive elements still active in Atlas.
Despite losing his eye under mysterious circumstances at a very early age, Sol, like his predecessors, joined the Moon forces as a preteen and earned an officer's rank before he was legally an adult. Unfortunately, Terrell was killed later in the same campaign, when his headquarters was ambushed due to a suspected information leak. The event has become dramatized over time, especially in Atlas, but the common tale is that Terrell had his throat cut while being held hostage and subsequently died in the arms of his son.
Sol sought vengeance and waged a long and bloody war to root out and destroy the insurgency responsible for the death of his father. While successful, and committing acts of brutality that would make him his father's equal in infamy, Sol was struck down in the climactic battle and lost his right arm just below the shoulder.
Sol received a state of the art replacement for his arm, and he and his father were honored, dubiously in the opinion of some, as war heroes. His men took to calling him the One Eyed Dragon, a name that he'd earned jocosely in his youth for his fiery temper, now punctuated by his reputation for severity and military brilliance, while others who looked less favorably on the trail of blood left by his family and his vengeance called him by another name, Sol Blackhand, on account of his artificial hand's black metal composition, and his black reputation.
Disillusioned somewhat by the loss of his eye, and more recently father and arm, and being overwhelmed by the responsibility suddenly laid upon his shoulders, Sol left the bulk of his family's forces in Atlas under the care of his three most trusted generals, and set off for Babylon with an escorts of elite troops to seek fame and redemption in the frontier. It has been many years now, but few fail to recognize the crest upon his back, nor the grim reputation attached to it.
